Buddy of mine has a 2019 F-150 w/Eco-Boost 3.5ltr engine and 10 spd trans that is beginning to give him fits. Shaking, binding, sluggish action more frequently than in the past. Engine oil changes every 5K, transmission oil and filter Bi-annually with both services performed at the local Ford dealer. He asked me to look at it and I've read enough, and know enough people with this transmission and it's characteristics to know what he's in for.
There are product redesigns, software revisions, driver adaptability algorithms updates, (software) and Ford is involved in class action lawsuits over this transmission. Here is a small blurb I found on the internet that explains just a few flaws folks are experiencing with this transmission series:

Same tranny as GM but the valve bodies are different, both have issues with valve bodies. Next Gen Drivetrain makes kits and rebuilt valve bodies.

would that be the same 10 speed that was developed in conjunction with GM (allegedly)? The same 10 speed that GM was marketing under the Allison trademark that Allison is now taking legal action against GM for?
well, I see NG beat me to it by 50 seconds!

I am still confident of this;
I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord. Ps 27 |

It is the same basic trans as the gm. They are junk. Being run in school buses as well and failing with less than 10k on them.

Sad part is we have the tech, material, and brain power to produce a tranny that would take on all comers, fit many applications and live a long life. Just no money in it.

Today's vehicles are the same as modern medicine/big pharma. They don't want to cure anything, just keep you alive enough to keep you coming back.
I'll keep my 40+ year old vehicles going long enough to out last me and that's all I'll need.

If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
Real pullers don't have speed limits. If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY |

Both the Ford 5R110, and 6R140 seem to be very good and reliable transmissions. They probably should have stayed with that platform.

More Gears to spread the narrow Borderline Minimal Capability Engines curves into, to make what should not be in there functional somewhat, Nope, will stick with my Old Junk before go to one of these. May as well have used a Infinitely variable trans as the Asians do.

You can blame the EPA, the 10 speed is all about fuel economy.

Yes, and it does actually work to keep the engine in it's highest torque range. It is the reason heavy trucks with automatic transmissions shift the way they do. Not very fast this way, but efficiency is highest.

That same site had a writeup on that trans also. Less problematic than the 10spd and IIRC the valve body was the largest culprit.
