I have a Fiat Allis FL10C track loader. I need a starter and can’t find one. The manual says it takes a Marelli MT67 starter? The starter I have is not working and none of the shops around here can find any numbers on it. Any help would be great. Thanks

The manual says Delco 40MT? I bought a 39MT which is the new 40MT. I installed it and now I can’t turn the engine over by hand. The starter is hitting the flywheel

42MT is basically a slightly lessened 40MT. A 39MT should fit but if it doesn't I'd ensure your starter drive tooth count is correct. You can't use an 11 tooth drive where a 12, or nine tooth drive is supposed to be.

I've replaced several 40MT, and 42MT with 39MT without issue myself and it has been straight forward for me. There are different drives available and you need to ensure they are compatible. This is what I suspect you have is an incompatibility issue.

I have edited my response for correction. The starter drive tooth count needs to match the original. Also ensure the starter drive measurement from the face of the starter mounting boss, (where it mates the flywheel housing) and the starter drive gear are relatively close in dimension. If the starter drive protrudes further from the mounting boss it could be against the flywheel ring gear.

Another obscure thing to watch for with FA starters for older machines -

We had starter problems with our FA 10 which ought to have a Marelli starter.

Fortunately the auto-elec that I've been dealing with for 50 + years has dealt with Fiats.

It looked like a Marelli, it worked like a Marelli, the Marelli stripping tool worked but it is an after market Italian brand so things like brushes are different

I'm away from home base so the brand is an IIRC at the moment and might have been 4 letters

The starter in our FA10 is an EFEL brand

Googled the starter and several units come up - seems some changes between years on what was used . Changing over to a Delco unit seems to be one option but measuring nose cone and checking fit would be important .
