Explain me this(and uae small words)

   I have one of my wd 45's, 6 volt, positive ground with a voltage regulator  not charging.  So i took the unit to our local Alternator repair shop for repair. 30 dollars later. I am back in the field. I hook it up,start the beast and it charges for 30 seconds then nothing.  I bale all day and the gauge shows discharge all day long. It was raining today so took it back to the shop. The guy told me i had reversed the polarity by installing it into a wiring system with a three way light switch. If i want to use a theee way switch, i need to use a cut out relay. If i use a voltage regulator i must use a two way switch. He also told me just attach the wire from the ammeter to the batt terminal on the regulator and not hook the wire to the field regulator because that will tend to over harge the battery.  Is he correct? Seems liks a smart guy but that isn't what the wiring diagram says.

	if you use a VOLTAGE REGULATOR, then you dont use the LIGHTS SWITCH.. The origina light switch has a RESISTOR built into it to act as a current regulator... You can keep your ORIGINAL LIGHT switch if you want.. just dont run the "F" wire from the generator to the light switch... run it to the REGUGLATOR.. Edited by steve(ill) - 20 Aug 2025 at 8:17pm

	what he was trying to say about the "F" wire, is it you GROUND IT, then the generator will bypass the regulator and go to full charge... Just run the "F" to the regulator and leave that terminal BLANK on the light switch resistor ( or tape the wire off as not used.)
