They are rerunning it on antenna TV. Tonight one of the groups was the Loving Spoonful. Boy do those groups take me back. We watched his show for years until mom got the idea the music was too "Wild" to watch. That was after the Beatles and the Mommas and the Poppas preformed, not necessarily on the same night. That wasn't her exact words, I can't remember her exact words. I found out later she liked to do the jitterbug as a teenager. We had a little fun talking about that. She'd never actually admit it but her onery sister clewed me in.

Yes, like you and a lot of others, I used to enjoy the Ed Sullivan show with my family. Every Sunday night at 8 o'clock if I remember. Had lots of good musical groups as you say, plus always seemed to have some crazy juggling or acrobatic act.
My wife recently got a DVD set of the best of Carol Burnett that we are now watching. That really takes you back too. At the time, I used to get a real kick out of the Red Skelton show. I thought he was hilarious. Unbelievable the difference in what was considered entertaining then vs now.

Had the privilege of seeing Red Skelton in person. This was at the end of his career, had many say it would be a waste of time, anything but. As funny as his prime on TV. He even made a statement about if you where any good you did not need to be vlogger and off color to get a laugh.
Just don't find much of what to laugh at with current crop of comics.

RED was FUNNY..... the new guys think they have to be SHOCK JOCKS to startle you... The more outrageous they get to "compete" against each other.

Like them all, but love the "B"s.

Another comedy variety show from that era that I thought was very funny was the Wayne and Shuster Show. A lot of you guys may not be familiar with Johnny Wayne and Frank Shuster as they were Canadian and their show was on the CBC but they were masters of the comedy sketch and appeared on Ed Sullivan apparently 67 times.

The Beatles and the Momma and the Poppas were one thing, but then when the Rolling Stones showed up, your Mother was probably ready to shut off the TV!! LOL! I think it was Rolling Stone Magazine that said Mick Jagger looked like a Chicken on acid on stage the way he swaggered and sang. And Charlie Watts just sat in his seat playing the drums hardly even moving around with a straight face on. Used to crack me up watchin' him! He looked like a Robot......

As kids, I remember Sullivan, Jackie Gleason, Glen Campbell, Carol Burnett.
Our Mother would not allow us to watch Dean Martin, nor Joey Bishop. |

I tried to follow the science, but it was not there. I then followed the money, and that’s where I found the science.
