Yes. The standard tire was the 14.9. In my series 1 owner's manual it states that the 16.9 was optional. I don't think I've ever seen a D17 that didn't have 16.9's.

I don't believe their factory, but mine had 18.4s put on it before I got it. Sure makes it look mean.

Our series IV came with 18.4 x 28's from the factory. I always liked the way it looked with those meaty tires on it. It was a '67 model that was at the MN state fair that year and we bought it new in spring of '68.

As of today, my D17 SIV diesel has 18.4 x 28's from my first 175D on it..with 7.50 x 16's on the front. Looks like a real tractor! I would have put the 7.5L-15's on it, but it has 5 bolt hubs. I put the 16.9 x 28 Firestones back on the '59 D17 SI diesel that they were on originally. Took off a nice set of 16.9's that were never seated on the rims due to rust....one sprung a leak up at the school garden Monday so I have to find another 15" rim if someone has a spare.....

When I got my series I D17 diesel, it had 14.9-28's on it. I switched it to 16.9's as soon as I could.

According to the early brochure you could get 18.4-26's from factory but they were rice tires.

Would the rim size be different as well? My 59 D17D which has 18.4s has a 14ish rim width. Don't know if this is different then the rims for the 16.9s.
