Governor quite working on my d17 I had either idle or full throtlle just by barely touching the lever, as soon as I shut it off it went to running backwards for a few seconds then would turn over but not start, went to checking and the camshaft is stuck with a group of teeth missing from it 180 degrees apart. any ideas of what went wrong?

Well, it could be that the governor blew apart, it happened on one of mine, before I bought it. What was left of the weights went through the cam gear taking out those teeth. I won't say it's a common problem, but it is not unheard of either. You probably need to have the crank and cam checked for straightness and magnafluxed, before you decide to reuse them. You can puke our a bunch of money to AGCO, as most of those parts are still available, or find one of the vendors on here to get used, but I would not buy used weights, get new ones. I think they fatigue over time.
