humour me, going to be stinking HOT here soon,,, what's the engine on a 716H ? Most regulators can be bought...it's the 'alternator coil' under the flywheel that can be 'fun' to acquire. disconnect plug,ru at idel, you should get 25-40 vlts AC from the alternator connector. if s GOOD, it's just a bad regulator( or ign switch).

hmm, probably has a 3 by5by2 'brick of fluted aluminum' style regulator with 3 spades. 2 go to the Alternator coil the 3rd supplies DC to the keyswitch. Big thing is that it MUST be solidly grounded. I'd remove clean everything, then put back on. If not charging , you may have a bad ammeter. Put DVM on regulator side and run the engine, should get say 14 volts, more at high revs. If so, put DVM +ve on 'load' side of ammeter, it should be the same. If NO volts, ammeter is kaput.
I've actually got 1 or 2 of them here..'somewhere'. dang hot 90*F in the shade !
