I was out riding my snowmobile today, and on a trail a ways from my place, I came across a all crop combine with a motor mounted on it, I am wondering what you guys can tell me about them, are they rare? A 125 cid engine as in a B or C tractor. Not as common as PTO of course but I wouldn't call them rare. I've seen some over the years. The engines don't get as much use as one in a tractor. Petty nice in the days of small tractors without live power.

Not too rare but unusual. Most put the PTO on the combine when we sold them new. In fact thinking back I do not remember any. I worked on some but those we did not sell. Rick told me he bagged in Southern Maryland with a combine with a motor. The owner would not put a muffler on the engine so it gave him a pain to hear the engine run and be almost right over it. Not to bad a looking machine. Be certain the combine and the engine turns over and is not stuck. Good Luck! Bill Long

BIL and neighbor both had ones with motors, don't know if 60s or 66s but they ran them alot of years.

It is a 66 big bin. Not that rare, but a heck of a good combine if you want to harvest some small grains. Looks to be in decent condition.

I'm sure the engine option was considerably more expensive option for the harvester than the PTO option but less than the cost of new tractor with PTO.

I've only seen a few with motors, as they're not very common down here. The All-Crops are common, just not with power units. That's a slick Big Bin 66! I'd snatch it quick. It looks great! Plus it has a Scour-Kleen attachment above the grain bin!

The combines I have seen with power units all had flathead Ford model A engines.

Big Gleaner Baldwins had those. Small ones like the "Six" didn't. Allis pull types always had Allis engines.

My dad and neighbor had one together and they had a Ford engine added to it, maybe an A. It also had the Scour Kleen.

My brother has two late model 60's with engines. Quite a while back I promised pics of them and his Gleaner P80 but they are somewhat buried in the shed.

Granddad and his brothers in laws pooled together and bought a Gleaner Baldwin pull type with a 12' header I believe. It had a Ford model A engine. One of the relatives still has the combine. I'd like to fix it one of these days, but it has a tree in it and it's pretty rough. Engine is long gone. Granddad has a NOS exhaust pipe for one of those combines.

PTO equipment was not popular out here on the left coast. It is only the last few years that hay baler with PTO and not there own engine have become "normal". So I would bet a large percentage of the All Crop with a engine came this way.
