 Topic: Can my Maglight be saved,,,,??

Howdy,,,Here's hoping someone can help with a small Oh- oh,,,, I have one of the 4 battery Maglites that took a dive and started growing some grayish gookies around the batteries and just do not want to vacate the inside of flashilight,,,,,!!! I scraped most of the gookies out but still cannot get batteries to move to try to remove them,,,, Anyone got an idee of what to use to maybe remove this gunk,,,,,???

Joe, Im sure someone will come along with some good advice. I had three of them, and had trouble with all of them. Fantastic when they were new, but, even though I changed batteries regularly, whether they needed or not. still got corrosion, and broken switches. I gave up on them.

I'd say a slide hammer with a screw on the tip, drill a pilot hole in the battery, screw in the slide hammer and yank away. Don't do like my brother did he was too cheap to buy a drill bit long enough (stuck battery was down 2 or 3 in the stack) to reach the stuck battery, and sized for the screw in the SH...

Unscrew the adjustable light reflector, remove the retaining snap ring, pull the rubber switch cover off, insert a very small allen wrench (can't remember the size) through the switch hole and loosen the screw holding the plastic light holder/batter connection, hold the switch down to clear the body and the plastic part should slide out the light end. At least taking it apart will give access to both ends of the batteries. I have taken a couple apart completely and found the battery acid coating the plastic part. Cleaning is not fun and have tried several ways with mixed results.

If ya got one of them Somali day care centers, your wallet should be able to hack a good slathering of Dielectric Grease. It would be the only thing I'd know of to prevent it. Possibly try rubbing a Mexie skull.

We all your the go to guy to fix anything even remotely fixable. But sometime  why? The flash light world has come so far with the new LED bulbs.
My nephew works for Surefire, about 20 years ago he was giving us their new (at the time) supper bright made blind the bad guys flash lights. So small I lost a few. But they took special batteries, got him to give batteries to. 
But my Wonderful has flashlights stashed all over the house. Which are getting used a lot more with our electric company installing all the new wildfire safety shut offs. The power is off at least every other month. Anyway I grabbed one of hers, the 2 D size battery model. Must not have a batteries in it, was so lite but I hit the switch and it was like the sun had come up. I think it was one C size battery in it. Then the NRA sends my free gift for staying a member a little bitty flashlight that takes one AA and makes light like your old mag light.
So other than you want a club, or the principle that no device wins. WHY ARE YOUN BOTHERING. OK I guess I do know O'l Joe fixes it because he can. So carry on don't let this be the device that beats you. |

I got one of them Mag Lights that takes two AA batteries... Battery died and STUCK in the case just like Joe said... I got a couple pair of pliers and unscrewed the bulb case on the top and could see the circuit board and contact for the battery to hit.. Bulb buried down in there somewhere... With that off ( what a pain, it was GLUED and SCREWED).. i poked the batteries out.. Very minor corrosion, but STUCK TIGHT... Ran a 9/16 inch drill bit thru the case ( drill about .010 smaller than battery) and reamed it out good.. Now the batteries slide thru again.......... Reassembled and ready to go.... They did NOT make that bulb / head / circuit board housing to come back apart easy !
