I have a BIG bird feeder... couple pounds of cracked corn and kernel corn a day.. 2 bluejays , 4 cardinals, and 2 wood peckers go after the kernels... About 20 barn swallows / sparrows/ etc go for the cracked corn.. Never had the bluejays until a couple weeks ago.

It's too early for the blue birds to be back up here yet Tracy. I'll keep my eyes open though. They are the last bird to leave here and the first one back. Right now I'd love to hear their song!!
Reminds me, I HAVE to get out and clean out the boxes!!

Haven't seen any here yet. That reminds me though, after frost danger is past I need to get more ferns for the front porch. The wrens show up every spring looking for them to nest in.

Ted, we have several boxes at the farm. I love to watch those birds. They eat lots of insects!I made some for our neighbor too! Won't be long now. Tracy

Dry old sparrows took over all my blue bird boxes and I can't get rid of them so the blue birds will come back

For the last few days we have had a yard full of Robins. Huge flocks of noisy Black Birds too. Those black birds made me want to see how many I could knock down with 2 shots from Grandpa's double 12. I remember picking up and chasing down 42 Black Birds in 2 shots when I was a Teenager . Got about 8 new Bluebird boxes to put up pretty soon. Cleaned the old good ones out. 2 had Flying Squirrels nesting in them.

been going through about 20 pounds of bird seed a week here - have around 20 or so cardinals every day same number of blue jays , 50/60 black capped chickadees , couple kinds of sparrows , 4 to 6 crows are here early in morning rotating watchers from trees to feed on the ground , yesterday before the snow had big flock of grackles on the bare ground around front yard . Downy Woodpeckers , Pileated woodpeckers, Dark Eyed Juncos are ever-present in large numbers also .
I have been spreading a mixture of cracked corn, black oil sunflower and a millet blend on ground as well as in hanging feeders . couple of feeders with niger seed for finch also as well as other small birds as the 1/4" mesh screen protects the feed from larger birds.
Seems the 10 or so gray squirrels are another fixture around feeders that became a nuisance of late So the cardinals are a welcome site with the brightly colored males setting in the branches of the trees in the back yard .
Was just watching a Jay kind of plowing the new snow out of the way to find seed on the ground under one of the feeders
