B gemmer steering box

   So we took apart the steering box to figure out why we had such a large amount of play in the steering and it appears the bearings are toast. So next question is which how does this shaft come out of here. Is it possible to remove the top bearing race which appears to hold everything in? or ? From our parts book drawing there is a top and bottom bearing on the worm portion and they are so bad that the worm essentially rides up 2/3  turn before the steering moves after the slack is taken up. The gears themselves look ok even on the side shaft, we are hoping someone else has seen this or taken it apart. Calling Sandy Lake in morning to check on what parts we think we need but as always appreciate any help from the group here. We have shortened our learning curve extensively with your assistance. 	Maybe DICK will show up and give you a few pointers.. Here is his site i used several years ago when i did one.... bottom bearing is a straight roller... top is tapered and sets preload.... 	Looks like the parts are available and thank you for the link as to what it is supposed to look like, debating best way to get top race out to pull shaft out as it was full of water for awhile so big time rusty in there. It doesnt look like he pulled that plug on bottom which is what I wondered about.

	you can put a CLAMP on the shaft and smack it like a slide hammer... or pull the plug and hit from the bottom.. Normally not that tight... but if you were full of water, could be different.

	Quick update and another plug for Sandy Lake. Spoke with Brenda and she found parts for an 84 year old steering box, three different sources but got them. Took about a week and a half. Thank you to Sandy Lake. Anyway put it together tonite and it is unbelievable how much better it is, play is gone and every revolution is transferred to the steering arm. Painting it up before putting it on the tractor. As always thanks for the help here.
