I have a I12, did not really want it but the I6 I had was crapping out. So been dealing with the Lowest Version model of the 12 for 14 years. 6 only lasted 6. Wife and SIL replaced theirs with I16s some time back, I refused, she noted well was Free, NO Extra Charges until next bill arrived, went UP $150 from paid for Phones they had traded up from.
Well to make a Short story more long and boring, Just received a new update, I still allow it as one time did not and had to go into a store to get phone turned back on as would not link to ATT Towers. So as to the latest and greatest(NOT), All my Photos end up with an ADDED MOV they were NOT taken as, have to delete those only to see those return to the phone and tie up space every week. Tried offloading ALL Pics, phone stopped talking to PC. So called ATT and Apple; "Not Eithers Fault" Phone is Old, did not take update well, again Is NOT their Faults. so started looking BACK to Flip Phones, was explained would void existing agreement for service from ATT and would have to Upgrade or Start a NEW Service but same number. Walked Out. Walked five doors down to Verizon, talked about keeping number, got a stumbling not discernable well maybe not as to my old ATT Number. As MY Number is the Base Number for Billing on the Account the other two lose their service if I leave, and Verizon is uncertain I can take but one number of a contract without the others(4 as SIL has a Ipad with its own number) Now just angry. APPLE will not agree to review the phone and fix the FU, said NOT theirs to fix, ATT will not accept it. And I have a phone working against me. Seriously thinking gonna dump all Microsoft and Apple and move to LINUX PC as well a Verizon replacement program phone and number. Will leave the contract run for the wife and SIL turn off the phone I have let the battery dry up so does not add any Data Time.

DMiller I feel your pain cept I had a Samsung that must have been on the same band as the trains that go by our crossing cause every time I’d be on the phone and the train goes by I’d loose the call. Go in and talk to the kids at ATT store….hopeless outcome with more headaches than worth, finally contract ran out and switched to Apple 16 been much happier just never do the upgrades cause that produces more bad results than good and then can’t go back to previous settings. Not getting political but how did we put a man on the moon but with today’s technology the phones don’t work when you need them in the back 40

Check out PureTalk. Works off of the AT&T towers. I switched from Verizon to them and have been well satisfied. They don’t have any brick and mortar stores but their customer service over the phone is excellent plus my bill is almost half of what it was even with more data. They are veteran owned and offer a veteran discount. My wife and I both have IPhone SE’s which are still working good.

Got my first smart phone, an Apple iPhone 6, through Verizon in 2015. It was great. One night I had set it aside while working on the combine out in the field and forgot it. Found it a few hours later. It was probably 2 or 3 years old at the time. It still worked but charging was never the same, described the situation to Verizon and they replaced it. In 2022 I bought another new one. This past summer the charge port was acting goofy so I took it into the store and asked if it was dirty or something. They said yes it’s dirty but you qualify for a new phone, here’s your new iPhone 17 free.
I have always accepted every update. Seems to me, for my uses anyway, it would be stupid not to for security reasons alone. I’ve never had an issue with service, bugs, glitches, or viruses. Yes I use a computer often too, but it’s hard to use a computer to get business done while you’re waiting for a batch of corn to dry, a truck to load, etc. Our support team at the day job absolutely couldn’t do their jobs without a smartphone. Dave there is no universal fix for the phone none sense. We had Version since the early 2000's. Had 4 phones at the beginning. Daughters job wanted her to have a smart and put here under there plan. The 3 were doing ok until all the old phones had upgraded to be G5(?) or what ever. Cell service is very spotty on the ranch where I spend 95% of my time. So I never turn phone on unless I want to make a out going call. Never learned how to text. But after the new phones Version was charging my phone for using data. It can go better than a month without getting turned on, but I was texting at per text price not part of the plan. My wife will not stand for being charged for things we are not using. So a monthly battle to have charges removed for over a year.
After dealing with mad wife for months, lets change companies. She had some reason it could not be one of small/cheaper companies. So ATT here we come, but since I had no idea what my password might be no end to the complications. And Version did not want let us have the old phone numbers. No big deal for me, not so much for my wife. But she was so mad at Version, she did it. Started out with a spot 200 yards from the house Att had service. Used it several times rather than landline from house for long distance calls. Within 6 months the handy spot no longer works.![]() I really believe the big companies all just keep pushing things as far as possible. With the Version billing problem my wife worked all angles and had several that bypassed the off shore call centers and got people in the USA that all said things would be good the next billing cycle. But nothing ever changed. The golden age of simple reliable phone service is long gone. The landline is very near death out here. Wifi based service is the only way to phone here at the house without landline. Wifi by ViaSat is not 100% so here and worse during bad weather. Soon it will be time to give Starlink a try I guess. Modern teck
and service about like tin can and a string. |
