Old 7G is going to be the death of me yet!!  Had done quite a bit with the old beast and decided was done some month ago, had issues with my 180 and spent a deal of time/money on it  and in doing so precluded my buying the rails off the scrapper in Illinois but that is another issue.  Did get my master pins firmly attached(welded) before going into the other tractor so thought i had it ready to go for later, so wrong.
Got aligned to brak up some old foundations, leasor of our farm had moved his stock so they wouldn't be a problem, so next I moved into the seat and click, then click, then no click.  OK so I figure the old batteries and cables are crap so I had changed them last month, maybe a bad new cable.  Followed the cables out, checked voltages and connected for a voltage drop test and voila! click, then nothing and no voltage drop.  Rechecked everything, no problems outside so figured bad starter.

Called our local rebuilder, $240 to build mine, $285 exchange, seemed a bit high but copper is high; he then said I should go on eBay, he can't compete with new ones sold there so looked.  New starter, delco 'Equivalent'  $261 and some change, free ship from TN.  Called the guy as couldn't be right but was correct so bought one.  Got it in two days, no fee, is Chinese and so I figured it has to be crap but has a 1 year warranty through the seller.  Now is when the fun started.

I have always parked my machine bucket dumped stting on the teeth to keep water off the bowl and to allow access for stuff as checking oil etc.; I also always back it in where I park it so it is easier to run out but for some dumb reason I put it in the shed, in the back, pulled in and close to the back wall.  I also like a rummy put the bucket down flat(it was inside) and over the next few days/weeks it relaxed and rolled up with the lift arms down deep, got out my jacks and plates and went to work lifting the bucket arms, a little here then reposition and a little there until I could block out and pull the belly pan.  Man what a mess, had to be thirty pounds of oily nasty leaves and crud beyond the thirty pounds I dug out when I changed oil, it is no wonder when these machines catch fire they burn so hot!  Had to pull the oil filter for removal room and got the old starter off, out of curiosity I opened it up, brush retainer fell apart, really did a number on the armature, bad scene.  Two days effort and voila!! it purrs like a kitty once again, starts easier than before and yes, I ran it for awhile then backed it into its spot, curled the bucket down and parked it with the arms slightly up as normal.

Part of the worst was having to crawl from the back to the front under the unit to set the jacks to raise the bucket, like a dumb arse, on my sheds gravel floor, swear I am still finding gravel in my shorts and I showered after!

That all shows me you have "true grit" !! I used to own a 450 JD with a loader on it and would drop the belly pan once a year to clean so I know exactly the mess thats in there.
