If it's John Deere then I didn't see or it's a Deere I'm not familiar with. Maybe an Allis UC or some kind of MM. Interesting anyhow.

The one sounding like a JD is probably a Thompson UC with a 2-71 Detroit engine.

an expanation for the sounds you hear (clicked ont the YouTube link)
"Working the field and harvesting cane filmed in the 1950's. Audio from the same time period, when the tractors were being started in the morning, I tried to make a best fit with the sound. The field tractors are Allis Chalmers / Thompson Machinery UC's. This was filmed at the San Francisco Plantation in Garyville, Louisiana."

It is interesting to watch the other modern sugar cane harvesting clips also.....but I would still like to see some shots of the old cane loaders, and video showing why cane tires need that deep tread....

Dusty, most all the later ones came from Thompson with hydraulics, and they were easily added to the older ones. As you can see, everything is external. Here's a picture of mine. Notice the tank is just mounted to the bottom of the fuel tank/steering brace. The pump is just belt driven off the mag shaft and mounted in the housing above. My pump is off due to needing to be re-built

on your question on why the need the tires with type of lug is because the way of rows are made and hold the water and the never stop cutting cane till the end because the mill never stops no matter how bad the weather is most of the tractors have push bars on them to help push the cane wagons out of the field.
this was a early cane wagon used with the MV and one i got year ago from LA.
most of the cane loader had a like a shovel on them to push the cane in a pile
this UC has a blade i have no pictures of the shovel but i do have one.
