I was out cutting a little hay with my AC 82T mower yesterday when the knifehead broke. On closer examination, it appeared that the knifehead was rather loose fitting in the bushing. If I get a new knifehead, is it going to fit tight, or is there some way to tighten it up? I've ordered a manual for this mower, but haven't gotten it yet, so I was hoping someone here could help. Thanks.

Walt

the bushing should fit in tight, but moveable with a slight tap of a hammer.check for loose nuts under the crossbar, that's what caused mine to break.
been there done that, not doing it again...

I think my problem is a worn bushing. There is a bolt that holds the knifehead, but it is as tight as I can get it and there is still a lot of play between the knifehead and the bushing. I'm thinking the bushing may be worn too much or the knifehead end is worn, or both. Anybody have a spare bushing?

Last time I checked at the dealer (about 5 years ago) they wanted $106 for one!

Flint23 -- Yes, I have tried tightening the crossbar capscrew but it won't tighten enough to take the slope out between the crossbar and the bushing. I'll take it off the mower later to see if there is something in there preventing it from going tighter.

Eldon -- $106...Ouch!

while you're at it check your connecting rods for slop ,might have a bad bearing, they should be tight also.
