 Topic: 6 Volt Field Control Light Switch

My WD45 is running a fully functional 6 volt generator with a cutout relay and charge controlled by the resistor on the light switch. I’ve managed to break the resistor on the light switch while repairing the battery box. Instead of buying a new switch I’d like to replace the resistor . I believe I need a resistance of around 3 Ohms to charge at low rate, can I use a light bulb with a 3 ohm resistance in place of the resistor? Or is there too much juice flowing through the circuit for the bulb filament to handle? Another thought would be to use a rheostat to ground to make a variable charge control. I have one I can tune in this resistance range, but I don’t know if the field current would smoke the rheostat . Electrons are not my strong suit, let me know what you think. Cheers Richard

The Brillman Co. has just the resistor. www.brillman.com ; 1-888-274-5562. That's the first and only place I go to for anything electrical.

our own Steve of B &B Custom Circuits, Steiner Tractor Parts, DJS, Brillman all offer the resistor for your switch

Put the resistor in. Don't buy that aftermarket switch. It doesn't fit in any of the AC instrument panels without grounding itself out. If you need a whole switch, I think we're the only company that offers the OEM switch rebuilt/restored "that fits" on exchange or outright. If the switch is workin', just put a resistor in it and yer' good ta' go!

Yes. An ohm is an ohm is an ohm. The electrons do not care one whit. Can't say that I would do it that way myself though
