The best success I had with my 745 transmission (just a bigger Allison) was using 30W engine oil giving better pressures as well as improved metal to metal protection. If you're not working the machine hard the thinner oils will do.

The dip stick is missing
my 1967 545d loader dose not have a dip stick it has two check plug about one in. apart haft way up the tran on the engine side the bottom one is the low level and the top one is the full level check running after warming up and in neutral l . mine also has a tran filter by the engine on the cooler line i have a 1967 545D with a 301 and 2 speed power shift i have a 545D operator manual and in the manual it say lubricate these with SAE 10w oil meeting ATF type c-1 so i think that SAE 10W oil or ATF type C-1 is what they went with in 1967 so i don`t think it need anything special i don`t know if tractor hydraulic would work (i can`t see why not) but the only thing that i did with mine was to take out about 5 gal of oil because they could not find the dip stick to check oil set park brake take the top plug out with drain pan if no oil add oil replace plug and start engine and run at 1000 to 1500 rpm for 1 min. to charge system then take out the bottom plug and add oil as required stop engine this is what mine look like uploads/1493/GetAttachment7.jpg do you have a manual HTH if you need more info let me know let us know how you make out B:-) Dnoym |

for what it's worth...I was searching net on Allisons and found a place in Texas that was rebuilder.Their info said use 15W40 oil.seems that one of the Ausies chimed in and said that's what they were using. My 78 545B has dexron in it...and it's transferring trans to hyd. Both are using dexron.

If you don't get other responses, eBay appears to have many choices, parts, service and operator's manuals.

I'm interested in any information I can get. Knowledge is power. But if i had to choose a shop type manual would be first.
