Hi,
I have a problem with a 1942 AC C tractor that I recently bought . It starts right up and runs fine with no oil in the oil bath cup, but when I add oil to the cup and start it up, it runs for a minute or so and cuts off. I am not able to start it after that. If I empty the cup and let the tractor sit for a couple days it starts right up. Is it possible I have too much oil in the cup and it is being sucked into the carburetor? I had the oil level about a 1/4" below the top of the little sediment bowl in the center of the cup. Any ideas from anyone?

Sounds like the steel mesh in your air cleaner is plugged up. Some people take it apart to clean. I threw mine in the hot tank while the engine block was getting done. Came out sparkling clean - mine was chocked full of mud and corn tassles!

I think the air cleaner has been replaced, it looks brand new with no dirt or anything in the steel mesh. Very strange!

there should be a fill line on your cup if your below the top of the cup a quarter of an inch thats probably too much oil

Should the oil level be above the intake tube, or should the intake be above the oil level when the cup is installed?

Air coming in to the cleaner has to be drawn through the oil. Oil will be sucked up and coat the wire mesh so dirt particles will stick to the oily wire. The cup should have a ring around it with the words oil level stamped somewhere on the circumference.

Thanks, I don't see an oil level mark inside but it is an old piece. I will check more carefully to make sure.
