I have an XT190 1978 or 79 that has poor brake function on both wheels. Is there a way to inspect, clean, and adjust the breaks without removing the wheel and brake housing?

I highly recommend getting a service manual. Answers a lot of these questions that come up. Having said that I believe you can service the brakes without removing wheels unlike the tractors with the external final drives. Ive done D17 Series III and 185 brakes but never a 190. Everything is under the brake housing cover. I think the basic design is the expanding drum like on a newer D17 through the 185s. Also just FYI 190 tractors were built from 1964 to 1971. Definitely none in 1978 or 79. Hope the seller didn't tell you that!

They are serviceable thru the brake covers. The bands on mine were worn, the disc were actually still in good shape so II did not replace them. Bought the parts from Rick's tractor parts. Be careful removing the springs. With a service manual its not a hard job.

Take the covers off and fix up a 6 ft copper tube hooked to an air hose and blow them out so much dust, dirt builds up in them , don't breathe that stuff tho,, then take a look see, bought a 200 once supposedly brakes worked great , they did after I cleaned them up
