Hey everyone,
I figured it was time to start a proper build thread on this little Allis B I dragged home recently. I picked it up in an online auction last week, and to be totally honest… it’s probably the saddest tractor I’ve ever loaded on a trailer. Most folks would have called it a parts tractor or yard art, and I wouldn’t have blamed them. But Bs are getting hard to find in my area, and when you do find one, it’s usually in about the same shape for three times the money. I’ve been told more than once that I’m crazy for trying to save this one – which usually means I’m on the right track. My plan is to do a full teardown and rebuild, one subassembly at a time. The engine will probably be the last thing that gets rebuilt. First comes dismantling, transmission, final drives, steering gear, and so on. I’m documenting the whole process, and I’ll post updates here as I make progress. I’m always open to advice, tips, or warnings from folks who’ve been into these Bs before. Here are a few photos from the day I brought it home: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() For anyone interested in following along, I’m also making a video series on the rebuild. Here’s the first part of the project: Appreciate any input from the Allis folks here, and I’m looking forward to sharing the journey as this little B slowly comes back to life. — Bryce Allis B Rebuild Part 1 Edited by BryceBurden - 20 hours 20 minutes ago at 2:54pm |

no battery... no boss mount for generator on engine ... front rims rivet to the hub.... your right.. its an early one... Serial number is on the trans casting by the shift lever... Motor casting "11" should be the second year of manufacturing i thinkg.. started with "10" ?? Might be an engine serial number on left side of engine casting by bell housing..

From what I can tell so far the front half going off the 11 casting code is a 39. The transmission and final drives are later, serial number shows to be a 48. In the video I stated the rear half was a 47, but that was before I realized that the serial number records on this site showed the last number for that year rather than the first.

The chain under the bell housing is what is holding up the stay rod for the axle. The casting is broken off where it would normally attach to. Not sure how I’m going to fix that yet, have a lead I’m going to check out soon on a parts tractor with what I hope is a good block, but the torque tube has been broken in half on that one so that won’t do me any good in that department

.
"Who needs four wheels?" With the work you plan, I'd seriously consider configuring that tractor as a Low Rider. Front axle inverts and rear bull gears are rotated. Then slap a belly mower under it. With a snow blade for winter adding chains and weights. There are a few YouTube videos of B "repowers" using the Harbor freight Predator 16 or 24 HP motors. That might be a fun diversion until you find the motor replacement/parts. . |
