I am wanting to convert my grandpa's CA to 12v and run an alternator. What all needs to be done? I was just going to buy a 12v kit from yt or something, but i was wondering what type of alternator will fit in between the steering shaft and not hit.

Get with Steve in New Jersey and check out his sight at B&B circuits. He's helped me a ton!

I keep saying: "small alternator from mid-80's Japanese car." Their diameters are no larger than an OEM generator. They wire up the same as any Delco 10SI or CS-xxx alternator. You can find one in a junk yard and you can find them new on the internet for under $80.
