When you go forward or reverse it makes a howling screeching noise. Don't believe it to be in the transmission. The gears shift fine. Would it be the tourqe converter?

I cant answer your question but if it turns out to be that get ahold of me as I have a complete engine and torque conv setup in the shed from waterpump to bell housing in the shed out of a 715 hoses wiring and all ,  was cut out of the machine with a torch as trans went bad and guy was going to scrap it and would have if I would have been a day later,  been looking for a 715 with bad engine or a 170-175 but havent found one and probally wont until I get rid of it or parts

you might look at trans as the one I bought parts off of had the cluster shaft come loose and back out enough to let front of cluster fall down and wore the teeth off cluster and imput,  worn or improperly meshing teeth will howl
