Fire breaks down under a load. Ballast resistor shorted out and allowing 12 volts to the coil. Put new resistor on and it shorted.out also. What could be cause this problem?

Replaced condenser and ballast resistor and having the same problem. Not sure what what to do mailto:%20" rel="nofollow -

Obviously you have a short somewhere in the Ignition circuit. What type of switch are you using? I'm assuming this is a 12V conversion? Loose the Ballast resistor. They didn't work under the hood of a 60's Automobile, never mind out in the elements on a Tractor. If you're running a 12V conversion, you need 2.7-3.3 Ohms of resistance in the Ignition circuit for a 4 cylinder on 12V's. Install a internal resisted 3.0 Ohm coil in the system. Make sure the Ignition switch or whatever kinda switch you're using is good. What's up front for the charging chores? Alternator, or 12V Gennie? Need more info to help ya out...

I recently put a 50 amp toggle switch for ignition. I'm using 12 volt alternator
