The dipstick says to check this level with the rams extended. I read this to mean the rear lift cylinders. If a tractor has a loader on it, should you also extend those? Is there a risk that the cavity will overflow with the loader cylinders retracted then (delta in displacement is the rod cylinder). Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks Terry

hmmm... now you've got me thinking..... If the level's fine with the rearlift up , I'd say you're ok...... and I've seen where others have tied(chained) down the rear lift to force the oil up to the loader only. The chained rear 'looks' like it's fully extended.it also makes the loader run faster as you don't have to wait for the rear to go up.
Some have a valve to direct flow to either front or back(my #3 does) though I've never used it cause I took the loader off(never used it..)
cheers Jay

Those directions were made for the bare tractor only, adding a loader will require more oil, I would just add enough to get it to function correctly, then you can always add a notch on the dipstick for the new level that is needed for the loader.

I wouldn't fill it with the loader up. You might end up with oil all over your clutch and pressure plate. I have had my 45 for over 30 years and always has the loader on it(well almost) . I have never filled above the full mark when the lift arms are up. I also never chained my lift arms down because when using the loader, they stay up. There is no waiting for them, before the loader comes up. If your lift arms drop down without any weight on them, you will soon be leaking too much oil out the packing. When properly set, the packing in the lift cylinders will keep them up .

I would think that if you have two way pistons, the oil level would not change (much) in any position.
