I've ordered the books, but they are not here yet. The range selector looks like it should have a latch and latch button. Mine doesn't. lever snaps into high and low. What am I missing?

on the square plate there should be a arm with some notches to hold in place the lever Niel

The button is really on for Neutral. Hi and low is not held into place by it.

There's a rod and spring that goes inside the lever with a button on top and a block and pin on the bottom. The pin engages in the arm (quadrant)mounted on the tractor. I should have all that stuff off my parts tractor if you're interested....

Don't know about the D14, but seems possible. I wonder if the control lever is the same length ?
I can only find the rod (with button) and the spring. Missing the lower block and pin. Sorry about that.

The D14 lever is the same length, so parts from it will fit. The one on your D17 was still being used on 175s in 1979!!
