I have a service manual. I am trying to adjust my tracks. it says I have to remove two cap screws. where the long screw goes into the yoke for the front idler I removed those screws. that piece turns freely. 10 ft cheater and I cant budge the large adjusting screw. so am I missing something. I have soaked the screw where it goes into the Yoke. wasn't sure if theres something on the idler assembly I needed to loosen. all help appreciated. norm

Nope - if it doesn't turn - next step is HEAT and SOAK , if still no go HEAT AND HAMMER while trying to turn .

Problem is Left side you can put down pressure on but Right side needs lifting up .

If you can't break them loose on machine next is track removal and taking them off to work on them .

Finally found my 1 1/2 wrench. Used the skid loader to free up the adjusting arm. I can turn it down which I think loosens the track and I can see some separation at the yoke where the dowel pins are so it looks as though the adjuster is moving that way but going up is another story. I think that tightens the track but dosent seem as the idler is not budging. Am I missing something here. is there something on the idler I have to loosen. Need some info here. Thanks Norm

Idler moves on slide rails on truck frame , these keep the assembly inline with rest of machine and with other side .

This should move freely as track tension is also set by compression spring in center of truck frame . If the wheel is froze to the frame (or welded) it could damage the final drive bearings the sprocket turns on.

Thanks. ill have to try to find out why it wont move. I cant see anything that's holding it. maybe its just froze on there. norm

WNEN YOU REMOVED THE 2 SCREWS FROM THE LOOK NUT AND YOU SAID SHE WAS TURNING FREE SHE SHOULD HAVE TREAD IN AND SHE COULD BE THE ADJUSTEMENT NUT IF THE IDLER IS NOT MOUVING WHEN YOU TRY TURNING THE LONG TREAD ROD ADJUSTEMENT AND MAKE SURE THE IDLER IS NOT FREEZE ON TRACK FRAME YOU CAN TRY TO MOVE THE IDLER WHIT A PITCH BAR

The idler was rusted to the plate. I put a porta power on it and finally got it to move. had to do both sides. not real free but it will move some both directions. took the seal out of the top roller I bought as the rubber was cracked badly. parts store hear is suppose to have on in Friday. its a 60x38x10. original was 60x38x12. really don't see why it wont work. would you all give me your input on whether to just ad oil or put a grease fitting in it. the inside bushing has a slight wear to it. the outside bushing has none. when I put the roller on the shaft it is pretty snug. the old roller has oil grooves in the bushings. the new one does not. wished I knew how to take the bushings out of the old one. they really are nice as is the seal but I don't know how to get it out without tearing it up. comments please. thanks norm

When I started I had 4 inches and 3 1/2 inches of sag. me and old skiddy now have it down to 2 1/4 and 2 inches. looks pretty good. although I cant turn the adjuster by hand it seems to be turning fairly easy with the skid loader. thanks for all the comments. norm
