When I got this tractor, always check the plugs to see if water comes out of the engine oil and transmissions plugs.
On the engine antifreeze did come out.
today I drop the oil pan but before i removed the head wanted to see were the antifreeze was coming from.
The temperature gauge on this tractor did not come that easy today had to use a easy out to get the lower part out. so made up air fitting used female air connection and part of the lower end of the temperature gauge and welded them together. used my air supply use to spray with to control the amount of air pressure.
started with 5lb nothing really came out raised to 10lb the antifreeze came out inside portion of sleeves piston are at. Also antifreeze were the push rods are located, but not were the O ring on the sleeved are in the block.
there is small corner of the head gasket missing so i am hoping just a bah head gasket not the head.
plan to get the head off this week. A couple pictures. http://s128.photobucket.com/user/richhc/media/Allis%20Wd%20high%20crop/alliswd459JPG_zpsf452457b.jpeg.html" rel="nofollow"> http://s128.photobucket.com/user/richhc/media/Allis%20Wd%20high%20crop/aaliswd453JPG_zpsd05d72dc.jpeg.html" rel="nofollow"> http://s128.photobucket.com/user/richhc/media/Allis%20Wd%20high%20crop/alliswd45JPG_zps73ef5e97.jpg.html" rel="nofollow"> http://s128.photobucket.com/user/richhc/media/Allis%20Wd%20high%20crop/alliswd455JPG_zps94be58e9.jpeg.html" rel="nofollow"> http://s128.photobucket.com/user/richhc/media/Allis%20Wd%20high%20crop/aaliswd457JPG_zps2c9c2b86.jpeg.html" rel="nofollow">

It could also be like the 45 Hi-Crop I purchased. Had two sleeves cracked down the sides. Obviously, it had frozen in it's previous life. I don't really think the orings were leaking, but of course, it got a complete overhaul.
------------- When you find yourself in a hole,PUT DOWN THE SHOVEL!!!

No O rings leaking on this one the other spot you are seeing is the antifreeze coming down the push rod holes.
Bob your right it could be the sleeves cracked. will not know till I get the head off.
will also have to check the bearing out with the antifreeze being in the oil pan.

got the head off tonight see attach pictures definitely the head gasket was bad and the head bolts were not that tight also.
see the oil passage rings are bent also the middle section looks like it had cross over was black. Clean the head up looks good. The block does not have the cracks in-between the sleeves.
Did find these ball bearing in the oil pan?

Put water in it for a trial run with some conditioner to prevent rust and see if it stays full.Bet your gasket was the problem but I'd hold off on antifreeze to start with.

Since I had the tractor down this far I decided to go ahead install new rings. Got my rings from Tony very fast shipping already install them on Saturday and Sunday. Third cylinder over had broken top ring.
Tonight took the front end off and the front pulley.
next to timing cover off. Then remove the motor and put new rear seal while at it I will go ahead install the pan on the engine stand should be a lot easier.

Looks like you are doing a good job on the WD45 HC. Don't forget to lineup the timing cover to the crankshaft when it go's back on.
So what tractors are you taking to the GOTO?

Don, was planning on bring both d 14lp to the show but the single front wheel has hit a snag the transmission does not sound good. so trying to decide if just should just change out with another one parts one. The only issue is it early tractor and the one I am working is a late bar grill.
Removed the front timing gear cover tonight front Gov. weights and bearing must have change both great shape. cleanup the front cover. See how they installed the front seal looks like they used a punch.
tonight found out I only have a head set not full gasket set with seals. Order tonight hope to get Friday.

While you're at it, replace the core plugs in the top of the head before you put her back together. You can't tell if they are rusted till you pull them out but they are cheap to replace and will save on headaches later.

Got the Gasket set Friday and started on the front cover and also pulled the motor to install the new rear seal and while it was engine stand installed the oil pan gasket this a lot easier than to get it on while in the tractor. Thanks to Randy in Jeff city for getting me replacement oil pick up assemble as mine was bad.
Know looking to find the bad bearing in the transmission or maybe could be the drive for the hydraulic pump while I have the engine out. The head is going to be look over also and will change out the plugs. have had plenty of them go bad over the years.

The WD45 is looking good. I hope you get both D14s going and they can come to the big show, if not I'll bet you come up with a good replacement in your lineup of tractors.

Got the motor in primer also brought another WC to use the transmission out of it as the one in the tractor had bad gears.

Also here a set rear wheels for another WD 45 project that will be upcoming. Sand blasted had to use small amount of body filler and this the first I used high build primer for the first time to help get rid of some of the other small imperfections. Best to mount when it was warm but it also easy when the tires are new.

We moved the WD 45 Diesel up that had been waiting to be worked on.
This is going to be made into Thompson high crop as I look for over 20 years and never did find one.
Tractor had a New idea corn picker on it previously we finished removing the back half today.
Also moved left rear wheel to the right side and installed a different wheel on the right side and change out the front tires to make easier to move around and not take to much room in the shop.
Bought this tractor at least 15 years ago gave $2750.00 back then and rear wheels were junk motor was loose learned the hard way about the injection pump. Injection pump was stuck and broke the plunger. Received another pump last week for the replacement. The motor turns over but hits hard spot, checked the valves today all are loose. will do more checking Sunday.
Also need to get back to the original dual transmission project some day. http://s128.photobucket.com/user/richhc/media/Allis%20WD%2045%20Diesel%20HC/Alliswd45d.JPG_zpskf1rbugb.jpeg.html" rel="nofollow"> http://s128.photobucket.com/user/richhc/media/Allis%20WD%2045%20Diesel%20HC/Alliswd45d1.JPG_zpskiwc5rpn.jpeg.html" rel="nofollow"> http://s128.photobucket.com/user/richhc/media/Allis%20WD%2045%20Diesel%20HC/Alliswd45d5.JPG_zps4j7kih5s.jpeg.html" rel="nofollow"> http://s128.photobucket.com/user/richhc/media/Allis%20WD%2045%20Diesel%20HC/Alliswd45d4.JPG_zpsln0kzixm.jpeg.html" rel="nofollow"> http://s128.photobucket.com/user/richhc/media/Allis%20WD%2045%20Diesel%20HC/Alliswd45d3.JPG_zpsbkozrpdv.jpeg.html" rel="nofollow"> http://s128.photobucket.com/user/richhc/media/Allis%20WD%2045%20Diesel%20HC/Alliswd45D7.JPG_zps899mvcie.jpeg.html" rel="nofollow"> http://s128.photobucket.com/user/richhc/media/Allis%20WD%2045%20Diesel%20HC/Alliswd45d8.JPG_zpslib9bznv.jpg.html" rel="nofollow">

Yes I have to work all the time pay for my hobby.
Sunday progress with some pictures. Still need to take the head apart to check the valve seats and check the energy cells. Look at the head seen no visible cracks.
The # one cylinder had water in it.
If all goes well tonight going to finish taking the off the narrow front to be able to get the pan off.
Only broke 3 bolts off. One on the front end and also the one that hold the radiator.
Radiator and block had some antifreeze still in them. No anti freeze or water in the motor oil. http://s128.photobucket.com/user/richhc/media/Allis%20WD%2045%20Diesel%20HC/Alliswd45d14.JPG_zpsxhngyail.jpeg.html" rel="nofollow"> http://s128.photobucket.com/user/richhc/media/Allis%20WD%2045%20Diesel%20HC/Alliswd45d10.JPG_zps7fr1uuuc.jpeg.html" rel="nofollow">
The piston was down only 3" from the top when I took apart, It looks worse because I had already started to clean the cylinder and forgot to take picture when I removed the head. The piston was not stuck but hit hard spot I did not force it passed as new something was wrong and I wanted to see if the other pistons were okay.

Well back on the WD 45 Diesel project.
Start last weekend removing the brake pins to get the brakes out. This was not easy task.
On the left side I tried to welded a washer on it and then nut. Tried to heat up and casting hit with the impact twisted the pin off. So I heated up more and cut the pin thru the hole with a torch and hit with big hammer it moved about 1/16". Welded another washer on and nut hit with my electric impact not as much force as the air impact. Work it back forth and got it out. http://s128.photobucket.com/user/richhc/media/Allis%20WD%2045%20Diesel%20HC/AllisWD45D37.JPG_zpsf0vujel0.jpg.html" rel="nofollow">
The other half of the pin was stuck also. Used a Bolt and welded it to the pin heated up some and used the impact it came out. then I cut the bolt free and pulled the other part out the bottom hole.
To get the seat off had to heat the big pin and bolts that hold the Shock on.
http://s128.photobucket.com/user/richhc/media/Allis%20WD%2045%20Diesel%20HC/AllisWd45D42.JPG_zpsrh3ymp7i.jpg.html" rel="nofollow">
The left side was even stuck harder. Tried welding the washer and nut and heat it would not move at all and I had cut the pin in half Finally twist the pin out flush with the housing. so I decided to use the torch and blow out the pin in the housing as the cast will not cut but the steel pin will. Even after cutting out over 1 1/2" of the pin and heating it up before the it would move bolt and big hammer. Then I would move it in about 1/2" and continue cutting the pin off till had complete out.
The other half of the pin was not as bad to remove.
The shoes on this side was bent bad when driving the pin thru the hole and could not be saved.
Here are few picture this is one of the bolt being weld to the second half the pin. http://s128.photobucket.com/user/richhc/media/Allis%20WD%2045%20Diesel%20HC/AllisWD45D36.JPG_zpsmmlkzxl8.jpg.html" rel="nofollow"> http://s128.photobucket.com/user/richhc/media/Allis%20WD%2045%20Diesel%20HC/AllisWD45D38.JPG_zps1bdfmlvq.jpg.html" rel="nofollow"> http://s128.photobucket.com/user/richhc/media/Allis%20WD%2045%20Diesel%20HC/AllisWD45D39.JPG_zpsfqrpjvaf.jpg.html" rel="nofollow">
You can see how even the bracket on the actuator were the rod stick in from the break petal is rusted. http://s128.photobucket.com/user/richhc/media/Allis%20WD%2045%20Diesel%20HC/AllisWD45D45.JPG_zpsmy8heouc.jpg.html" rel="nofollow">
Here is what left of the shoe as it was bent so bad I just cut it off. http://s128.photobucket.com/user/richhc/media/Allis%20WD%2045%20Diesel%20HC/AllisWD45D46.JP_zpsb9t9yg7y.jpg.html" rel="nofollow">
Decided to Bring up another WD that I have in for Salvage. Needed the top shifting assembly for my other California high crop as the shifter kept jumping out leaving it in gear.
This one the pin moved a little by hitting with hammer and chisel back and forth with heat from the torch.
Welded a washer and nut and used the slide hammer to move it some then used the impact to et the rest of the way out.
http://s128.photobucket.com/user/richhc/media/Allis%20WD%2045%20Diesel%20HC/AllisWD45D40.JPG_zps62fkk5ld.jpg.html" rel="nofollow"> http://s128.photobucket.com/user/richhc/media/Allis%20WD%2045%20Diesel%20HC/AllisWD45D47.JPG_zpslrvlnt0x.jpg.html" rel="nofollow">
This was easier to work on as I could use the loader to stand it up on side.
The right side took me including digging out the mouse nest and dirt about 3 hours.
The left side about 6 frustrating hours.
One from the salvage tractor was about 1 hour. Took more time digging out of the salvage row and bring up than it did doing the work.
I have new brake drums on the way for next weekend work.
Even though this tractor looks rough, it actually has little wear on it and I have someone else going to do the motor work for me.
