ya. we prolly seen this ? before. Besides the obvious turbo, what set them apart? Anything? I thought I remember hearing the early series 1s had small diameter axels.. True? On the hood, are the exhaust holes in the same spot?

The rear end bull gears are thinner. The axles are the same at 3.25 Dia. The series 1 tractor had a muffler under the hood with no turbo and the exhaust was ahead a little in the hood.  Smaller air clearner with more of a mushroom top through the hood. I think most or all the the series 1 tractors also had the chrome grills too.Made only 1129 Series 1 tractors. Series 1 is also a little bit lighter, cant rembember why but around 400 to 600 lighter ? Thats what I can think of right now.

Hope this helps. Take care, Darryl

At serial 3596 the D-21's got the heavier bull gears at the factory. Allis had a field update program and every earlier serial number D-21 series II that we have had apart had the larger bull gears. I'm told the update was an ugly job for the dealer because the bottom of the housing had to be ground out for more clearance.

I bet someone at AC wasn't too happy about absorbing the re-engineering and machining costs necessary to create more room inside the housing at the factory! Wonder what that cost back then?
