I just bought back a wd that I sold in 98. It has a gleaner combine eng. in it. I bought it this way and it was not running. I sold it to the person I just bought it back from. It has set for the last 15 years exactly they way I sold it to him. The tractor has never be completed. It has a eng. serial # of 17-54958-Z any info on this motor would be helpful. I'd like to know what the year is, HP and where I could get a eng. manual. It's not every day you get to buy back the first tractor you owned. I just did  |

Gleaner E engine uses a governor set up specifically for use on a constant-speed application... that means... it runs at idle, or at governed speed, but doesn't like to be anywhere in between... so if... once you get it running... it seems fine, but doesn't want to run at mid-range, swap the governor with a WD or WD45 governor, and it'll be much happier. 15 years is a little while... make sure it's clean on both the top and bottom ends, and not stuck, before you engage the starter...  And another note... the Gleaner E engine doesn't have dramatic differences that I'm aware of... aside from a little more compression... but the method of horsepower calculation is different. In a tractor, the horsepower rating is done at the load point... which is at the PTO shaft, or at the drawbar... including all the friction losses of the transmission, hydraulic pump, etc... but the Gleaner E is a 'power unit'... so it was most likely rated at the flywheel... and of course, since they have two different governors, the horsepower figure is dependant upon speed that the engine is carrying the load... horsepower is force x distance x time. ------------- Ten Amendments, Ten Commandments, and one Golden Rule solve most every problem. Citrus hand-cleaner with Pumice does the rest. |

| The later engines with 8.0 to 1 compression are 67 flywheel HP. The older 7.25 to 1 compression engines are 63 flywheel HP. |

I plain on rebuilding the motor before I ever try to start it. I bought it this way in 98. So I can't say how long it's been this way. It's missing the governor, carb and water pump. I'd like to restore it as puller tractor. I was 23 at the time and life got the better of me and I had to sell it. I only owned it for about a year. I was going to get it running back then and never did so I sold it. I'm not letting it get away from me this time.
