I'm hoping you guys can give me some direction in finding a used or after-market right angle gear box (AKA widespread drive gear) to run the beaters on an IH 555 manure spreader. Or give me a link to a IH forum.

The housing is broken and the gears inside are all messed up.  Here is a link to the IH site.  I plan on calling a dealer in the morning to see if one is available, but I have to imagine it will be awfully expensive.

Try Fry's machinery salvage at 570-546-3968. It's hundreds of steep acres of machine on top of machine. They definitely have had several but that is one of the first parts to go. Saw some of those while looking for parts for my IH 575 spreader. They ship all over the country and are usually good on price but some of the big gear boxes must be lined with gold if you know what I mean. Some days it seems like they are understaffed answering phones. Good luck.

Thanks TJ, I sent them an email, hopefully they have something.

If anyone else knows of a good place to look, please let me know.

Well, no luck so far.  Waiting on one call, but am trying to put together another plan if I cannot locate one.

Would either of these work?

I don't think I would put too much faith in trying to email them. Ideally, you need to talk directly with Jesse. Like I said, frequently they seem to be understaffed this time of year. Unfortunately, they have taken a couple days to get back with me before. Good luck.

I was going to suggest Surplus Center. Baum Hydraulics also has a selection of similar gear boxes. Without the intimate familiarity of the 555 that you have, I can't say if any other gear box will fit. I'd expect to need to make a mounting adapter and shaft couplings to fit the available shafts to the universal gear box. You can compare gear teeth, shafts, and the general structure to see of the easily available boxes fit. There is more than a slight chance that IH bought a commodity gear box, rather than making a custom gear box but if they bought a thousand they could still have customized shafts and mounting.
