Just picked up the block from my '57 D-14. I had it hot tanked at a local machine shop. I asked beforehand whether there would be any problem with the sleeve seals leaking after this process and was told "no". Before I put 'er back together, has anyone had experience with this. I had hoped to avoid pulling the sleeves. Thanks

I wouldn't trust ANY shop that didn't recommend removing the sleeves before hot tanking.
Now that its done, I wouldn't think about putting any time or money in the engine without taking the sleeves out and at least replacing the o-rings. I seriously doubt the water jacket got very clean with the sleeves in it so you might need to do some work there too. The back cylinder could have lots of junk packed around the sleeve.

Did they hot tank your block or just put it in a hot water washer? I'm with the guys about not removing the sleeves first. what about the old cam brearings?

I can't believe they would've put it in the tank with sleeves in place... that'd be like having your pants dry-cleaned with your wallet and comb in the pocket, belt still in the loops... and your shoes and socks in there too... Even if your wallet was empty... and your shoes weren't muddy...

Thansk for the info everyone. I'm gonna order an engine kit with sleeves and pistons. I planned to replace the cam bushings. Bob@allisdowneast

When you clean up block and drop sleeves for fit brfore O-rings go on .Check your block deck and the sleeve height.
