Hey guys im still in the process of overhauling my ca and i got the crank back from the machine shop with bearings so I thought i'd get it in. Thats when problems begain. I put it in and torqued the main caps to 80ft lbs like my manual said and i couldnt budge the crank at all. So I then remembered that well this is a shimmed crank so i got shims and shimmed it up so that all 3 main clearences were  .0015 as my manual said. I then torqued the caps back down and the crank now turns however it turns pretty hard, you need a bar to move it. I dont really want to add more shims because the clearence would be larger then specified. Just wondering what you all thought and, how easy should it turn when it is in properly.
Thanks Brandon Doyle

Did you by chance get the front and center bearing caps reversed?

I know what the manual says but but rule of thumb on that engine is .002 - .0025. This is where the measuring details come in to effect.

You need now to find out exactly where your at. To that you measure both the crankshaft OD and the bearing ID then subtract the OD from the ID. How I do it in the pictures at the link.

Without measuring you are assuming that every thing was as on the package. Since it caused it to bind the way it is you can probly assume that it was not.

There are 3 ways to do job GOOD, FAST, CHEAP. YOU MAY CHOOSE 2. If its FAST & CHEAP it won't be GOOD, if it's GOOD & CHEAP it won't be FAST, and if its GOOD & FAST it won't be CHEAP!!!!
