As you guys are aware I am going to look at an HD11, also there is a F/A 11B I can get for less than $18K that has 80% rails and decent trans, etc. Question, the guy has a number of older F/A 11 units including a 14C these all have segment sprockets except that 14, can the segments from a Cat fit these? to change the pitch from the F/A arrangment? Could the 14 be converted to segment type or have you seen it done?

DMiller,

In FA dozers around the merger there are those that were Allis and those that were Fiat.

The approximate equivalent to the HD 11 is the FA 10. According to our parts book and dozer, 10's have half segments, but the earlier Fiat 10's might have had solid sprockets judging by things like spacer plates under the carrier roller supports.

The FA 14 is next step up the size/power ladder in the Fiat line. By 14C they were out to about 165 hp if I recall correctly. And I'd suspect have a bigger set of track chains. I'd be suprised if 14C's didn't have some sort of segments as they're later in the series.

I'd go for the 11-B over the 14C, personally. There are alot of engine parts available around the States, with the 12G, 745, M100 and N7 combine using the same engine. The Fiat crawlers never had much of a following. That being said, there are a few around- the older gentleman I mentioned to you in northern MO has a 14C for sale as well. Also an FD175 you could pick up cheap- around 20K. I'm partial to Allis Chalmers myself, so have never paid much attention to the Fiat machines.

There is a nice looking 11-B selling at auction up in Chillicothe today, actually- it will be interesting to see what it goes for...

I saw that one too on Machinery Trader, curious as well . There is a gent in Salem MO that has the 11B units and the 14C, has been unable to move them in years so price is coming down. I have not had time to contact the gent up north but I am hoping to in a day or two.

Sounds like she went for $25000- top dollar. It was one of the last ones, not sure of serial number, but they were calling it a '77, and it looks like it has an under hood muffler, judging by the stack. Would have the 11000 MK2 engine.
