Anyone know of a source for a new or re-manufactured starter, for an Allis Chalmers FPB 20-24 (1 ton lift capacity) forklift?  The engine is a Waukesha FC 133 gas four cylinder, manual trans.  I believe it is an early 1970's model?  Some of the digits on the data plate are wore off, so I haven't emailed the AC historical site, to verify it's age.  I brought the starter to NAPA, and they couldn't locate a replacement.  I then ordered a starter online, from a small engine suply (said it would fit an FC 133).  Tried to mount the new starter today, and it doesn't fit!  The start I received from the supply house, has an external solenoid, which won't clear the trans bellhousing.  The original starter, has no external solenoid.
The original starter has a MAK 4001 marking on it.  I found on Google; that this marking indicates it was manufactured by Autolite, and it appears to have been used on a 1938-1940 American Bantam automobile.  Again; the NAPA folks were clueless with this info.  Any help is appreciated!

Ages Cat,
Thanks for that info, I will call them on Monday.  From the pic posted by Coke-in-MN, it appears that my oem starter is missing the spring on the starter shaft?
