Was bush hogging with my WD45 today, when it froze a couple times when I made a tight right turn. I would Clutch, and Brake, and it would unfreeze.
That is until just now. I made a hard right turn and it FROZE. It is sitting in the a 13 acre field with the bush hog and it won't unfreeze. There is a small bit of play in the steering wheel, but the steering is frozen solid.
Can't go forward, because it wants to push the tires, turned to the right... forward down the slope.
Would appreciate any suggestions on how to get it unfrozen, and what generally causes something like this.
Thanks,
Dex

Take the plate off the top of the pedestal and have a look. Might be so wore out the worm is climbing the gear. Don't turn it that far again till you find and fix the problem. You can turn just as fast by standing on the brake with it turned half way specially if you have some weight on the back.

Does your WD45 have power steering on it? Like CT said pull the cover and look inside at the gear first. One thing you can try is to put a long bar in between the front tires and get her a turn back straight that will get you back to the barn for more repairs.
Let us know how it comes out.

If you don't have a long bar just get a good 2X4 and use that. You also may need to use a good farm jack and get some of the weight off the front end and that may also help free it up to get back to the barn.

Thank you all very much. We found the problem. The guy who sold the tractor to me came over.
Back about July, or, so, I posted photos of the tractor when it arrived. It had a homemade BRUSH GUARD on it. I was going to buy a loader for it, and the consensus here was that the brush guard had to come off to allow the loader to fit. We removed the brush guard, but used the longer bolts that came with it. They were not threaded all the way to the bolt head, so, the nut would go on only so far.
The vibration of the tractor worked the bolts out to where they came in contact with the tie rod ends in a tight turn. Part of the tire rod, kind of a nub, hooked onto the bolt when I turned hard right. That's what it was. We pried it loose, and then turned the bolts around for now, so I could continue bush hogging for another hour. Plan to replace the long bolts with the original size that was in there before the Brush Guard.
Again, thank you. Sure glad it wasn't something else, removing the pedestal plate, gear... etc. Whew.
If I would have looked at the front end before walking back to the house, I MAY...MAY have found it. I

Haven't been feeling well lately. Went to bed at 7pm Friday night, slept in to about 9am today. Still didn't feel well, even after having a very nice dream about "PENNY" from THE BIG BANG THEORY.
I was beat after being on it for over 4 hours without stopping, and just didn't think that it would be something that simple, because of my luck.
Again, thanks, guys.
