Can the seal around the PTO shaft on am AC 185 be replaced by cleaning and polishing the shaft, pryiing the old seal out with a screwdriver or seal puller and just tapping the new one in place. Thanx in advance. Gary

You can if it's a single speed 540 shaft.It's probably easier to remove the three 3/8s bolts in the triangular piece and then pry out the seal and replace it.The bolts hold the shield and the triangular piece onto the tractor.There is an O-ring that should be replaced if that's the way you do it.On a 540 & 1000 RPM system,you have to remove the lift arm housing to change the seals.
