Well here it is, hope I didn't get your hopes set too high but this little TLB has been on my want list since I first saw one. Anyone with info on them please chime in. I believe there were 69 of these made and this one is serial # 67. The  guy I got it from says he heard Tractomotive built them and returned them to Allis to be sold? This one has a nice serial # tag and also a dealer tag on each side. It runs and drives with a 3rd gear issue, loader works great. Just under 1700 miles round trip but I couldn't be more pleased with my newest project.

I've got a ways to go to catch Bruce.

Not sure how many are left of either the TLB or TLW. I don't think there is a registry for them anywhere.

Norm Swinford's Construction book states that Allis Chalmers shipped B and WF tractors to Tractomotive to be built into TLB and TLW loaders, with 69 TLBs and 202 TLWs.  After 2 years they found that the tractor drive train wasn't strong enough for construction work and then they developed the TL-6 and TL-10 construction loaders to replace the TLB and TLW.  Then from 1950 to mid 1959 Allis supplied engines to Tractomotive.  In mid 1959 Allis bought the Tractomotive company and from then on they were Allis Chalmers loaders.

To the question of how many are left, I'm not sure anyone knows that, but it's damn few.  I know of but a handful of TLB's and TL-6's (we have a TL-6 that needs a lot of tlc).  I also have a TL-11, of which there were only 126, mine being #117 and badged Allis Chalmers, and have only heard of 1 other, but haven't been able to confirm it's existence.  I think many of these old loaders were used and abused and sent of for scrap many years ago, so the ones that are left are few and far between, so we need to save all we can.  BTW, nice find.

MN Lonnie:  That little IB sure is a nice looking unit.  I see the front rims are pretty stout.  I am wondering if a heavier rim was used on the 9 x 24 or 10 x24 tire below the operators station.

Glad you were able to get the machine and add it to your collection.  Orangeman

MNLonnie, I was just wondering if finding this TLB came about from your post several months ago to someone also looking for a TLB on the construction forum?

Darrell, thanks for the info on it. I don't have the construction book that you mentioned. I believe AJ started a post that he wanted one and I chimed in to say me too. I found this one in the ads on Smokstak.

Good find and worth every mile of the trip! This is big brother (actually built first) TL-W.
I happened on it by the side of the road for sale in 1993 about 600 miles from home. Restored in 1993-4. I know of about 10 more some running some not. It is based on the WF.

The guy I bought this from in Ohio has a G and a WD but he mainly collects walk behinds and hit miss engines. He has the most incredible collection of walk behinds I've seen. Someone called about the TLB after I did and they must have been from this forum, when the seller said someone from MN was coming to look at it they asked " is it Lonnie?", the seller was more than a little surprised that anyone could pinpoint a name like that. I thought that was pretty funny.

Shameless, the little rig with the tow hook is my kids Kalamazoo warehouse truck. The hook is just a conversation piece, we use the truck to run around at shows.
