I have a 220 with 4 batteries, which all need replaced, would like to go down to just 2 on the left side, like my 210, do I have to do anything to eliminate those other 2 on the right side or can I just leave them out?  Thanks!   A.J.

I removed the cables that went to the right side on mine when I went to just two batteries on the left side.

All those batteries and connections can be a PITA. When it had four batteries the battery connection on our 220 was parallel from left box to right or in other words there was 12V from each side. Not sure if that is OEM as it had been dinked with quite a bit in the 'lectrical dept. If yours is that way you can operate it from one box by simply removing the batteries. Obviously you have to remove or at least kill the power to the not used cables in the RH box. You also need the best amp/hr rated batteries that will fit in your box if your going to use it in coild weather.  When I had to replace the batteries I went down to 2 myself but went a differant route than you propose.  I went with a single 4D battery on each side and am very happy with the results, the loss of cable and connection problems and the 220 spins over briskly.

Two left side batterys only in My D-21, 210, 220 with no problems but they hibernate in the cold weather.

My 220 was missing left batt cover when purchased and had 2 batterys over on the rt side.Got some tread plate and hardware store piano hinge and made a very handy tool box outa the left side.

I also use group 31 batteries

Two batteries should work fine, unless you are trying to start the old gal in below zero weather without any type of block heater.

Not exactly sure what you mean but original was positive cable running from each side all the way to starter.  In other words, a tractor with 4 batteries would have 2 cables attached at the starter.

Yes, that is how ours was wired. Everything was jury rigged with tape and cheapo bolt on terminals.  We trashed all of it and ran new for the single 4D battery on each side all the way to the starter.

we only have 1   1000 cold cranking amp car battery and it starts just fine but we only use the tractor in the warm months in the winter it could be a whole another story

you could leave those other cables but you need to tape the ends up so they dont rub on anything metal to short your other batteries out. if your are going to run 2 batteries make sure both positives are hooked together on your batteries so it stays 12 volts otherwise you will end up with 24 volts.

We run two 31 series truck batteries in our 220 and D21. The 210 came with one battery but will have two batteries when it is restored.
