Well we got some beautiful weather today in NNY. Had the B and C out for a spin around the fields. Was wondering if anyone has experimented with mounting a PTO Driven Air Compressor off the back of a B or C. I know where there are several Joy, Ingersoll Rand and Old Jaeger Air Compressors that look like they could be put back to work using a PTO to provide power to drive the compressor.

Has anyone contemplated a PTO driven Air Compressor, maybe a power unit would be a better set up instead of running of the B or C PTO. Any thoughts/comments appreciated.

i have thought about it. If 540 RPM is good, you can direct drive. If you need something faster, then it would have to be chains and sprockets or belts to up the speed. Also when you reach full pressure, do you unload the pump or just let it blow off ? Easy way is to have a big relief valve and blow off.

I had thought of putting one on my G when I was sand blasting parts ! Never happened though.

Don Dittmar has done that, see post. He started with a trailer mounted compressor, pto driven, then re powered with a B power unit.

I just replied to Don's post of his "gorgeous" compressor but on a lower note my buddy in Ontario has my 3pt Quincy. I guess it all depends on how much air at what pressure you need.

Guys: Thanks for all the replies, just wanted to provide enough air for an air powered jack.

Need to lift up an HD6 G shovel. So a 20 air powered jack would be good.

Don did an excellent job on his B powered air compressor, very nice work.

I have a industrial sales book from Allis Chalmers that lists a B with a mounted compressor on the back, as I remember it was driven from the belt pulley drive on the back of the tractor. If I can find it I will post it for you.
