How can I tell if my WD engine (201) has a WD45 crankshaft in it without pulling the head and measuring the stroke? Previous owner said it had a 45 crankshaft in it but I am not sure.

Pull the pan and look at the casting number.  Will start with 226 if it's a 45.

Should be able to take a spark plug out and put a piece of wire in there and see if it's closer to 4" or 4 1/2" stroke.

The problem with the wire test is that the wire lays diagonal in the cylinder, andmakes the measuring challenging.
You could also measure displacement of 1 cylinder.  Good old fashioned liquid method.  Personally, I would just use it.  The when the oil pan leaks, look at the crank and then you will know.

Take a plug out like Lon says. You can use a heavy zip strip or a piece of wire to measure the difference in length from TDC to BDC. 201 will be 4 inches, 226 will be 4.5 inches.
