Just bought a '52 CA.  Needing a magneto and some implements.  Anybody know where I can come across these?

Welcome, I think you probably want a distributor rather than a magneto.  I have a '52 or early '53 CA and it has a distributor.   Mine has the pin hitch rather than a snap coupler, and it seems either type of this equipment is pretty scarce around here.  Oh, by the way I'm in Lenoir just up 321 from you.   Tim

I've been told the early CA's had mags. My 51 has a distributor and I asked Dad about it once. He said the distributor was always on it as far as he could remember. Might have been a dealer swap though???

Thanks for the info Tim.  I will say that this is not my area of expertise.  I have helped my brother-in-law redo a '53 Case 300 and a '48 Farmall Cub.  I thought this would be fun to do.  That and I ran across this at a good deal too.  Any idea where I can get a distributor?  It is missing the entire thing, housing and all.

Check with some of the vendors that advertise on this site,  I have dealt with Jim at OK tractor,  super nice to deal with,  he has some used parts.   Tim

edit:  Just go to top of page and click on "parts, etc"

Just thought that the Foothills swap meet is this Saturday at the Catawba Fairgrounds beginning at 8:00 am and the club president (Wilson Sigmon) has several AC's and may be able to point you in the right direction.   Tim

Try B&B Custom Circuits. They're listed under parts.

I would go if I could.  Tied up.  I will keep my eyes open.  I have found a manual at Tractor Supply.  Thought I might check it out and see if it helps.

A '52 CA should have still came out with a magneto. Distributor ignition started in '53 with engine serial no. CE-149840. Take a look at your governor gear. If it has NO shaft to the rear and a cross slot, it came with a mag and/or had an aftermarket distributor installed. If your governor gear has a shaft with a drive gear on it to the rear, then it came with an AC distributor.

Well, I am assuming that it should have a distributor.  There is an opening where it should be located, and there is a slotted gear that is connected to the motor.  I will take a pic of it and post it later to show you what I am looking at.
