I am looking and selling my 170 with cab/heat and replacing it with a small Kubota with cab/heat/air. It is just used as an acreage tractor mostly for moving snow. The 170 is in great shape and has never let me down, but I don't really need anything that big. The other question I have is will a 33HP Kubota run a 7' single auger snow blower without a problem? ------------- 1972 170 with Year-A-Round Cab |

I don't think you will regret it. The Kubota will be way handier in smaller places. Be sure to get front wheel assist. I have a 23hp with a front mount snowblower and do a driveway that is almost a block long. I do not have a cab but I get finished so fast that
I never get cold. It depends what else you use the 170 for. Sure hate to see Allis leave!

| Pizzaguy I don't know where you live but up here in northern MN we get some big snows once in a while. I have a 40hp Jack Deere with 6ft blower I use only if I can't push with loader and snow bucket (10 ft bucket) A snow blower takes hp to run , if you expect to eat right through 3-4 ft snow banks you will be under powered! If all you have is wimpy little snows such as 4" or so I think it will probly work. HTH Mark |

Of course you will regret getting rid of the 170 But you will enjoy a new compact tractor, they have come a long way. ------------- The universal answer to all questions is yes, how much do you want to spend? |

I just bought a Kubota B3300 this past Tuesday, I haven't put many hours on it but I sure do like it so far. The FWA and loader valves will be handy in the future.      |

I have a Deere 4310, 32 HP, FWA, Hydro and loader, also have a 170 gas with loader. I could sell my 170 and do everything I do with my Deere but then again the 170 sure is nice when I want to pull some trees or do something that seems like heavy work for the compact and light work for the 170. |

My question is, "Why didn't AC, or any of the other major tractor manufactures, build the smaller tractors like Kubota did? We certainly had the know how. Why did we let the Japanese eat our lunch in terms of building for this market? This isn't intended to be a political forum question. But everytime I see the Kubotas, which are excellent tractors, I just wonder why the US just let this emerging market pass it by? Anyway, I agree with the above posts, that 33hp may be at the limit for a 7' blower in heavier snow. |

That's certainly true about looottts of horse on the first pass, but you don't have to make a full swath each time! Years ago, before the good weedkillers became available, we often had to run the heads in beans with only maybe a half full pass. The same thing works in snow, if you can't handle a full pass, sometimes you make better time overall doing half a pass. I use this same trick when grass gets away from me and the Woods wont take/doesn't like a full swath! Besides, in mowing it will do a better job when not overcrowded. jmo ------------- You don't really have to be smart if you know who is! |

If you decide to get a Kubota, pray you never break it. Parts are through the roof...everything is metric...usually you have to wait for the parts to come in from overseas...

Dad bought a B20 Kubota new in 94 and it has been an excellent machine. Any parts we have needed usually have been at the dealer or at the warehouse. You want expensive parts, go to cnh. ------------- I have a 185 Allis, 6060 Allis, Model K gleaner, SMTA ferg 35, ferg 20 (paps first tractor, Allis B (wife's)John Deere 240 skid loader and a bunch of the usual farm stuff. |

| Only thing I would say is after being used to a 170 you might be surprised what you cannot do with a compact tractor. Sure they got all the horsepower but they just aren't heavy enough. That being said there are alot of things that they would excell at. Id say keep the 170 and buy the kubota. a few extra payments might be worth it. |

Can you provide a little more information regarding your snow conditions and the equipment? Is the Kubota equiped with a hydrostatic? Will your blower be a front mount or a rear mount? Is your winter such that you get large drifts, heavy wet snows &/or hard wind packed drifts. If you experience some or all of these and you must move snow frequently a larger HP tractor for a 7 foot blower will never be regretted. Our first home had a long unprotected L shaped drive. No matter where the wind blew from one half or the other was drifted in. I kept it open with a 430 Case Diesel & a 7 foot rear mounted Arps dual auger blower. It did the job but there were times when I had to nurse it along to get thru the toughter heavier drifts. More HP and a front mount with slower ground speed would have made things much easier. The new machines with the hydro add a lot over the direct gear tractors of the 60's . Hope this helps. Tom
