Hello all, So one of the Front End Loader cylinders on my D14 sprung a leak a while back, it started out small but is a real gusher now. I removed the ram from the cylinder and saw that the seals (or packing, not sure what these are called) are definitely in need of replacement. They seem to be made of leather... those good old original parts last a loooonnngg time :). My question is, where can I get replacement seals,wipers... whatever I need. There are no distinguishing numbers on either hydraulic cylinder so I have no idea how to ID it??? Here's a few pics of what I have if it helps... Please help me, I really need to use the FEL this weekend!   Thanks in advance... looking forward to learning something new! |

| Are there any hydraulic shops close by? They should be able to fix you up. Was there anything in the groove on the piston. I may be wrong but looks like a good place for an o-ring. |

| There are no hydraulic shops within an hour of me... I didn't notice a groove in the piston, if so I'm sure a nitrile o ring would work??? Any ideas about what exact parts I need, I know it's a long shot with no make/id numbers. |

There is NO Piston on these cylinders. The hydraulic fluid displaces the rod, that's what makes it extend. If you google search "Chevron packing" you can find replacement parts. You need to order by the rod size and bore of the gland and stack height. I'm lucky I guess with the coal mines hydraulic shops and bearing shops are everywhere around me. I just overhauled the cylinders on my FEL and they had a round o-ring and a flat backup o-ring on each side of the round one. They just measured the outside diameter of the piston.
the first time I looked at the picture I thought The piston had a groove but now I'm not sure

There is no piston. On the bottom end of the rod is a groove for a snap ring. That snap ring keeps the rod from extending out the end of the gland. The gland contains the Vee packing that keeps the pressure inside the cylinder and a bronze guide bushing that usually needs replaced with the packing. | I didn't get off near as lucky as you guys. Two years ago I had a hydraulic shop repair the cylinders on my 500 loader. Three of them got new rods, probably could have polished them up and got away with it for a while (I don't think the shop would have given me any kind of a warranty though) but I hate something not being fixed after doing the job. $800 later my loader was up again. |
