Tuned up the WD yesterday. Followed the instructions by Duey posted several years ago. Got the job done but still have questions. I didn't find "a small timing mark inspection hole on the left side of the motor". I MAY have found a 'fire" mark on the bottom of the flywheel but can't be sure. I did find an inspection hole in front of the mag which lines up a raised, round bump in the hole at top dead center of the #1 piston. The other issue which didn't seem to match the instructions is that my rotor does not line up with the #1 lug in the mag when the "C" mark on the mag timing gear is straight down but rather when the "A" mark is lined up straight down. Slapped it together and it started right up and runs great including at barely running slow idle. Please educate me on the differences stated above!

First, the drive "lug" in the governor HAS to be horizontal when Number 1 piston is on TDC. Second, ANY wire can be number one depending on where the mag is in rotation when you connect it to the gov. housing. With number 1 cylinder on TDC of compression stroke, you can rotate the mag til you get fire from the wire you want to be number 1, then back the mag up till it lines up with the drive. I don't know how it is running if you have the A lined up when you put the mag together but if it runs right, you did sompin right and you got no worries.

The timing mark inspection hole is on the left side of the bell housing on B's and C's. On the WD / WD45's it is on the bottom of the bell housing there should be a plate with two wing bolts holding it on. The markings will be on the rear face of the flywheel. turn it over slowly by hand and find the marks and clean them up. I like to put white fingernail polish in the marks . it makes it very easy to see and use a timing light.
