| Hey all just picked up a 3 bottom sc plow for my 45 . It needs some tlc I was wondering what some of the adjustments were and how it's supposed to be set to plow and where I can get some parts thanks Justin! |

Set your land wheel on a block to simulate how deep you want to plow. Then adjust the plow to set level on the ground. Set your furrow wheel all the way in on the rails and lock them. You may have to adjust for the height of the front wheels if they are row crop. If you don't have fluid in the tires, you may have to add wheel weights depending on your type of soil. Typically it takes 4 wheel weights each wheel to equal the amount of weight of the fluid. It has been recommeded to have one or two more weights on the land side to compensate for slippage on grass or residue. If the plow has been used previously you should be good. You possibly could need to adjust the centering of the plow. The coulters should be set 1" above the tip of the plow and approximately 1/2"
towards the land side from the shin.

You'll also find out you can hook up your plow from the tractor seat, without getting off of the tractor. Something 3 point people can't do. or the D series either. Sometimes I have to move my plow on the trailer, I load it with the skid loader and when I get to where the tractor is I just back the tractor up on the trailer hook the plow up from the seat and drive away.

| While Harold's suggestions appear to be from an "Old PLow Man" and are worthy of consideration, I would nevertheless go out and get yourself an operators manual for the model of your snap coupler plows. I used my manual many years ago when I had/used a SC 3 bottom behind a WD-45. Of significance is the proper adjustment of the rear skid shoe/depth adjustment and the tractor wheel spacing. If you can't find a manual shoot me a PM with your plow model and I'll check my manual... as I don't plan on using a SC plow again, I just might part with it..for a good cause. |

Also....
take an angle grinder with 100 grit disc on it( or wire wheel,takes longer) and shineup the moldboards and points real good.Unless you've got sandy soil,it'll take a few rows to 'grind' off the rust that forms from sitting around.
when done for the season you should coat the shiny surfaces with grease so next season it'll be a lot easier to get onto the fields.
oh and be sure to add neversieze to the beaming screw and other things that turn easily now...they won't next spring...unless you grease/oil.lube them up too.

If the plow has been used before, I wouldn't make any adjustments to it till you get it in the ground and try it out. Get your wheels set right and go turn some dirt. Be sure to use a safety chain so that if the SC lets go it will not dig into the ground and flip the back of the plow into the back of you. Just in case the latches don't let go. Just saying. ------------- 1957 WD45 dad's first AC 1968 one-seventy 1956 F40 Ferguson |

Plow paint or most any cheap aerosol spray paint is more effective at keeping plow surfaces bright than grease. When stored for a short time old oil works, but grease won't stand up to high temperatures like we are having and will melt and run off. Plow paint is soft, but plain spray paint lasts best. The dirt will scrub them off. I carry a 4" wide paint scraper when plowing to clean the plow surfaces if dirt sticks. Gerald J. |
