will a crankshaft from a D19 fit unto a -45 block? OR, can a D-19 block accept 4"sleeves? Or am I barking up the wrong tree? maybe the guts from a 170 into a -45?
What's the advantage of a WC over a WD for pulling, excluding the engine? WD is 88lbs heavier, but.....

A D19 crank will fit a WD45D but not a WD45 gas. No a D19 block will not except a 4 inch sleeve.  MACK

Lou, as a starter, the WC and early WD use the 201 cubic inch motor with 4 inch bore. The later WD45- D17 - 170 use the 226 motor with bigger bore and longer stroke. If you have a WC or WD motor you want to put the bigger sleeves and pistons. in your old block.. and even consider the longer stroke crank to get the cubic inches up.(226 parts will fit in the 201 block.. If you have a 45 or D17 and want the compression up a touch, you might want the 170 pistons. Im not sure if the cam changed or not.

Wrong, all engines from the 34WC to the last 226 built used 4 in bore sleeves and a 4 inch piston. If you want more power cheap, use the WD piston with the 4.5 inch stroke of the 45 and later 226 engines and you will have higher compression.

I'll try to address your question of the WC vs WD as a pulling tractor. This is based largely on personal experience. Easier to lighten up the WC. WC is is just a simpler basic tractor; no hydraulics, no power adjust wheels, no hand clutch. WC can use RC or WC Hi-Crop ring & pinion to slow it down with taller tires. WC just seems to naturally be better balanced. Any engine mods that can be done to a WD work just as well on a WC. I personally find using the WC hand brakes to just be more "instinctive" than the foot brakes on the newer models. One advantage of a WD is that if you have engine rpm rules the WD will be allowed more rpms. BTW any WC, WD, or WD45 will make an excellent and competitive pulling tractor even in stock unmodified form. Kip
