I am looking to purchase a fertilizer spreader and have come to the one I would like, an Adams, and the salesman told me I can only run it with an open center hydraulic system.

Do the 8000 series have a closed center system?  If so is it possible to run these spreaders with them?

Will my 210, 200, or 6060 also be able to run them?

The spreader spinners are driven by the hydraulics.

Well, the 8000 has a closed center hyd system. The 6060 I'm not sure about. The 210 and 200 both have open center systems. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that you should be able to run it with the closed center system, but: More than likely there is going to be a flow control  valve on it that directs only enough oil to the spinners to turn them the desired rpm's. The rest just returns. To run it with the closed center system, I think you could just open the flow control wide open and use the flow control on the tractor to adjust the spinner speed. You might run this theory by the salesman before you etch it in stone, but that would be my guess. Darrel

Also slamming the spinners to a stop with the inertia could damage the motors on the spreader. They do make a flow bypass valve that you can install that will create a flow bypass and keep the damage from happening.

Yea, I can fix that.....
