I have a chance at either one.  It would be used primarly as a planting and a chore tractor hualing wagons and such.  Was just wondering you guys opinions on either one and why you would recommend one to the other.  Both in pretty decent shape, both had engine overhual a few years ago but dealer doesnt know how long ago or the hrs.  Thanks Kurt

You can wash the dirt off the body but you can’t wash the farmer out of the heart and soul

185 all day. More reliable, easier to run and easier on the wallet.

185 all day long for a chore tractor Cold Blooded but reliable. d19 diesels are good to collect but when they don't run right its like throwing money down a rat hole. 185 alot more made more parts available then a d19 diesel,

Go for the 185, a better tractor all around with a much better engine and hydraulics.

185 all the way, not a comparison really.  If I could only have just one tractor to farm with, it would be a 185.

I have both -- am in the same camp as the previous posts -- go for the 185. Just a great all round tractor. I use it for just about eveything --- bush hogging, mowing hay, baling hay - both round bales and square bales, disking,  hauling.  Agree with cottonpatch -- if I could only keep one of my tractos -- I'd keep my 185.

Owning a D19 gas and using my uncle's 185 from time to time I'll agree with what everyone has said here. 185 is a better tractor all around. I still love my D19 but hydraulics and power steering are it's weak spots and a diesel D19 has lots of engine troubles a 185 would not have. Such as sinking sleeves and cracked head.

Prices are too high in my book. Halve them both or close to half at least on the 185.

The only thing I can think of is I'd rather have the D19 PD for running the baler. We ran a 185 one season on hay and the PD is jerky no matter how slow you try to take off or shift up and down. Bad thing is you seem to feel some hot air from the motor on the D19 and hay season is the hot season.

A D19 diesel in excellent shape might be worth that, but you're easily going to spend that much you need to overhaul it.

$8900 with a cab and snow blade seems kinda high for the 185, maybe if it is real nice with very good tires. I've seen a few nice ones go for $7000 - $8000 but most "average" ones go for $4000 to $6000.

Well I havent seen the d19 in person but you all make me want the 185.  The 185 is very clean.  No oil drops anywhere and it runs out so nice.  But you guys think 8900 is too much?  Well I did get him down to 8000 and thinkin he wont go any lower.  thanks guys for all your in put   Kurt

Even 8000 is pretty high, I know of a pretty decent 185 with a cab and asking price is 6500.
