Hi AC enthusiasts,

I've got an AC G that has non-functioning power front hydraulics. I'm working on troubleshooting the issue and I need some advice. The system appears to be complete but I cannot get a response from the controls.

I have engaged the hydraulic/pulley system with the shifter lever on the housing. The pulley is running. I have moved the valve lever on the control valve (on the pump body) back and forth with no effect. I have disconnected the hydraulic line from the pump body with no fluid coming either from the line or the pump. I have removed the plug towards the exterior of the pump body, the one with a long pin and spring that supposedly holds a ball in the pump body. Even with the plug and pin out I get no response by moving the valve lever back and forth.

Would any experienced G owners be able to advise me in the next steps to take to possibly free up the ball in the pump body? Or is there something else I can try to get the pump to move fluid?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide,

Is there fluid in the system?

Yes, the oil is right below the level of the main plug. It looks clean and topped-off. Besides the hydraulic system the tractor is running fine.

I am afraid it is time to inspect the suction tube.    Might be plugged, might have hole allowing air to enter.

Very stupid thought.  Do you have the right oil in the transmission.
The manual calls for 20 NON DETERGENT oil but I have heard some very good reports on trans hyd (?) oil.
Did it work before?  If it did there may be - as said above - air bleeding in and losing prime or a plugged intake tube - simple.  If that is not the case then you have to get more detailed.  In Fact, Dave just posted a G hyd manual.  Ask him if he will send it to you so you can see what you will be working on.
Good Luck!

ps:  You know, this is the first mention of a non-working G hyd I remember hearing.

Hi Bill,

I believe that the tractor only has engine oil as the hydraulic fluid. It all runs out of one reservoir. Maybe other G's were made differently.

Transmission oil perhaps?

Best regards,
