I need to plow some rough pasture ground.  I found a fella with 2 AC  plows.   One is 4 x14" .  The other is a mono frame 5 x 16".  The land is hard blackland.   Can I pull the 5x16 or should I go with the 4 bottom.

Personally I would go 4-14's for sure especially if you say your ground is hard. Our 200 struggles with 5-16's in heavy bottom ground. I'd bet your 185 will handle 4-14's just about right. I've never been around a 185 but we have had 180's before. Just as a side note grandpa was looking at a new 180 that the dealer promised would pull 4-16's in heavy, heavy clay river bottoms and the dealer brought it out to the field and it wouldn't touch it, sent for a 190 XT, wouldn't pull it, sent for a 200, it pulled it barely, so he plowed the rest of the field with the 200 and he almost bought the 200 but a certain loved one would let him spend the extra money so he got a 180 and 3-16's. Sorry that don't have much to do with your question but thought I'd share that story

do your 185 a favor and look for a 3 bottom or knock off the back 4x14 bottom.

Yeah I was dreaming,  The plows were the same money.   Our blackland here is tough.  I know you have to crawl with 2 x14 with the D 15.  Thanks

Using a d-19 I can plow just about anything with the 4-14's. Last year plowed hillsides when it was raining with duals on both sides it did okay for the steep hills from 15% to 23% grades on the hillsides.
